Terminal Foligno

The terminal of Foligno is located in the center of Umbria, 30 km away from Perugia. It extends over 50.000 sqm and has two platforms beside the operative railways, one (about 25.000 sqm) designated to stock full and empty containers and to handle them, the other to the truck and lift truck maneuvers during the handling.

These two areas are linked together by a strip of ground 2400 m long and 1500 m wide beside the railways: in this zone the container handlings are carried out, the loading and unloading of the containers from the wagons to the trucks. The Terminal has three railways: two of them are 300 m long and the other, more little, named “ scambietto” (» small points), is about 300 m. All the three railways are active and in all the zone where containers are handled, linked directly to the railways, the floor is made by cement able to tolerate the lift truck and trucks weights.

The terminal is managed by the Cooperativa C.A.B. company, that is specialized in inter-modal systems transport for 15 years, carrying also with its own containers. In Foligno terminal the Cooperativa C.A.B. deals handling activities, container deliveries for import and also export to and from Naples harbor to which it is directly linked by a train connection twice a week.

The handlings are carried out with a FANTUZZI CS 45K lift truck, that has also a “PIGGY BACK” system and is able to operate also until the 11th line for different weights. The containers are delivered by the companies own trucks and trailers (30 x 30’, 15 x 40’ lowered, 8 x 20’, all equipped for dangerous goods transports).

Since about three years modern it-systems at the disposal of Cooperativa C.A.B. allow to manage the terminal, with the daily registration of all the container movements (in and out), in a way that it is possible to have the containers stock situation in real time. Concurrently via e-mail this management data is shared with the COSCO offices in Naples so that also they have all the data about the terminal, the full and empty containers - sent and received, every day present.

From a logistic view:
From a logistic-territorial view, the terminal of Foligno is a strategic point to serve the market of all central Italy and in particular the Umbrian zone, that is known to have a lot of small to medium size companies developing in particular export activities and that are within reach from Foligno Teminal in less than 30 minutes.
In the same time the location of the terminal is also a big strategic advantage to serve the market of the Marches and Toscana that is also easily reachable.

From a commercial view:
From a commercial view, the intermodal service from Foligno to Naples harbor benefits from the proximity to the most important companies where we load the containers (Pesaro, Ancona, Ascoli Piceno zone). Because of this the service is precise, on time and successful: Therefore the terminal can be a competitor to the harbor of Ancona concerning all furniture, foods and electronic instruments.
Further, the terminal conforms to the new international law concerning dangerous goods handling and transport so that it can supply some of the most important companies that produce dangerous goods in the center of Italy: these companies in the same time, after the containers have unloaded, can use them again to sent away their products without any costs.
